Thank you to everyone who supported our Luminaria event.

The winding entrance from Five Mile Line Drive and the walkway
to Shepherd Home's front door were aglow from the gentle flicker
of more than 250 luminaries.

The luminaries, small bags holding sand and a lighted candle, created
a moving nighttime holiday display - - each one honoring or
memorializing friends or loved ones.

The Wings of Light luminaria event is over, but you can still honor or
memorialize someone special in your life by purchasing an engraved brick for the Shepherd Home garden pathway here. Your donation will help our Shepherd Home to continue to provide free hospice care for our residents.

Nifty Bar donates new sign

Many of you have probably passed a large tan building on Whitney Road W and wondered what Nifty Bar, Inc exactly is. Nifty Bar is a cutting and grinding machine operation that services machine shops throughout the Northeast. Thanks to the generosity of NIFTY BAR, visitors to our front door are now welcomed by our new SHEPHERD HOME sign. Retired former owner Grant Gillette managed the project along with business partner Raymond Dreher. The new owner, John Raimondi, provided the funding. David Ferro, a longtime Nifty Bar employee, designed the sign. Our new and reformatted sign was painted by Rochester Vibratory and installed in May. We are so grateful to all those who donated their resources, time and talent to this project, including SH volunteers, Jeff Burns, Dave Sloman, Bob Hesselberth and Chan Philbrick.
2013 Plant Sale

The weekend of May 17-19 saw Shepherd Home grounds turned into a wonderland of color-hanging baskets, annuals and perennials graced our landscape. Over 200 supporters came to purchase their plants and mingle with friends and SH staff and volunteers. We are grateful to John Anderson Farms who supplied the beautiful hanging baskets and annuals as well as to those who shared perennials from their gardens. Paul Anderson, Lee Vester, Ann and Gary Ras, Oksana and Britt Carpenter and many other volunteers put in countless hours to make this a wonderful community event!

Great time had by all at 10th Anniversary Black & White Ball

Over 170 guests attended the 10th annual Shepherd Home Black and White Ball at the beautiful Penfield Country Club. Our hosts for the evening were Norma and Andrea Holland. Dee Alexander served as our honorary chair. Attendees were offered the chance to win a trip to the Gideon Putnam Resort as well a chance to win a bottle of wine at the cork pull room. After a sit down dinner and live auction guests were invited to a "coffee house" with live entertainment, cordials and a chocolate fountain.

Charity Golf Tournament

Despite the uncertain weather, a great time was had by all at the COMMUNITY ANNUAL CHARITY GOLF TOURNAMENT on June 17 sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Penfield-Perinton Foundation and the Town of Penfield Staff Volunteers and hosted by Shadow lake Golf and Racquet Club. Proceeds will benefit several charities, including Shepherd Home.

PBA Golf Tournament Benefits Shepherd Home!

2013 PBA Golf Tournament to benefit Shepherd Home check presentation: left to right:
    Guy Taddeo - Family First Federal Credit Union; Channing Philbrick - President, Shepherd Home Board;
Betsy Inglis - Director, Shepherd Home; Mike Smith - President, PBA; Paul Dwyer - PBA Golf Comm. Chair; Jeff Chapman - PBA Golf Comm. Chair

Shepherd Home is so grateful to the Penfield Business Association for the fantastic golf tournament they organized for us!  July 15, 2013 was the 3rd Annual PBA Golf Tournament at Penfield Country Club. 120 golfers took to the links under blue skies and humid temperatures. PBA golf committee members: Jeff Chapman, Teresa Brigandi, Tracy Dovi, Paul Dwyer, Laurie Klein, Amy Stekloff, Marie Cinti, Jessica Imburgia, Guy Taddeo and Kate Haywood.

Family First Credit Union was again the lead sponsor ; John Cipro of Don’s Original was the lunch sponsor and countless other Penfield businesses were flag and tee sponsors or contributed exciting gifts for our raffles.

Many hands make light work; a special thanks to Marie Cinti who recruited several hardworking volunteers who spent the day selling raffle tickets and being on call for anything needed by the golfers. Many other SH supporters attended the dinner with the golfers; kudos to Mike Smith and the Penfield CC staff for a delicious dinner and a day of hospitality.

Congrats to Harley Students!

Congratulations to The Harley School hospice students who graduated on June 13 -- we wish them the very best as they head off to college!

Shepherd Home has been graced with their presence and the loving care they have extended to our dying residents. The skills they have learned in their hospice classes and the experiences they have had here at SH will serve them well no matter where life takes them.

Their compassion and youthful energy has blessed us all and we will miss them!
